Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Outlook

A Significant Severe Weather Event is Possible Across the South-Central United States

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a particularly dangerous situation tornado watch for portions of central and southern Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle, including the cities of Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and Dothan. This is the highest level of severe weather outlook issued by the SPC. A particularly dangerous situation tornado watch means that widespread and intense tornadoes are expected in the warned area. Residents in the warned area should take immediate precautions and be prepared to take cover.

The main threats from this storm system are tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. The Storm Prediction Center has also issued a tornado watch for parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. Residents in the watch area should be prepared to take cover if a tornado warning is issued.

This storm system is expected to produce widespread severe weather across the South-Central United States today and tonight. The Storm Prediction Center urges residents in the affected areas to stay updated on the latest forecasts and warnings from the National Weather Service.

Safety Tips

If you are in a tornado warning, take shelter immediately in a sturdy building. Go to the lowest level of the building and find a room without windows. Stay away from doors and windows. If you are outside, lie down in a ditch or other low-lying area and cover your head with your hands.
