India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: India thrash Bangladesh by 280 runs, take 1-0 lead
India registered a comprehensive win in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram on Sunday.
Axar Patel and R Ashwin shared nine wickets between them as India bowled out Bangladesh for 150 in their second innings to seal a thumping 280-run victory on Day 4.
With the win, India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Resuming the day at 42/0, Bangladesh lost both their openers cheaply as Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav struck early blows to leave the hosts reeling at 28/2.
Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim then steadied the innings with a 59-run stand for the third wicket, but Ashwin provided the breakthrough by dismissing Litton for 24. Mushfiqur followed soon after, becoming Axar's first victim as Bangladesh slipped to 92/4.
The lower order offered little resistance as Axar and Ashwin ran through the batting lineup. Axar finished with figures of 4/77, while Ashwin claimed 5/47 as Bangladesh were bowled out for 150 in 58.3 overs.
Earlier, India had declared their second innings on 258/2, setting Bangladesh a target of 430. Cheteshwar Pujara top-scored with 102 not out, while Shreyas Iyer made 86 not out.
The second and final Test of the series will be played in Mirpur from December 22.
