Mbappé and Vinícius Jr. score penalties as Real Madrid win 2-0 at Real Sociedad

Real Madrid go top of La Liga with hard-fought victory

Two spot-kicks secure all three points

Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Real Sociedad on Sunday.

The visitors took the lead in the 29th minute when Vinícius Júnior was fouled in the penalty area and Kylian Mbappé stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

Real Sociedad had chances to equalise but they were denied by the woodwork on two occasions.

Real Madrid sealed the win in the 89th minute when Vinícius Júnior was again brought down in the penalty area and the Brazilian made no mistake from the spot.

The victory takes Real Madrid to the top of the La Liga standings with 38 points, two ahead of Barcelona. Real Sociedad remain in third place with 35 points.
