Early Life and Education

James David Vance, born August 2, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio, is the son of a nurse and a truck driver. After graduating from Middletown High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

Military Service and Legal Career

Vance served in the Marines from 2003 to 2007, including a tour in Iraq. He earned his law degree from Yale Law School in 2013 and worked as a venture capitalist before entering politics.

Political Career

Vance gained national attention with the publication of his bestselling memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," in 2016. He announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Ohio in 2021 and won the election in November 2022.
