Israel Airstrike Kills Dozens in Gaza
International Condemnation Mounts
Jerusalem, May 27 (Reuters) - Global condemnation is mounting over Israel's airstrike on a camp for displaced people in Rafah, which killed at least 45 people, many of whom were women and children.
Mounting Offensive
Israel has intensified its offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, carrying out air strikes and firing tank shells despite international calls for a ceasefire.
The Israeli military said on Thursday that it was fighting in neighborhoods near the heart of Rafah, apparently in an attempt to root out Hamas militants who have been firing rockets into Israel from the area.
The United Nations and other international organizations have condemned the attack on the camp, calling it a violation of international law.
The Palestinian Authority has also condemned the attack, saying that it is a "war crime" and that Israel must be held accountable for its actions.
