BC Hydro Planned Transmission Outages and Recent Power Outages
Planned Transmission Outages
BC Hydro has announced planned transmission outages with approved status for a two-week window. These outages will affect customers in various regions of British Columbia, and BC Hydro is providing advance notice to allow customers to plan accordingly.
Recent Power Outages
On Wednesday morning, over 8200 BC Hydro customers in the Vancouver area experienced a massive power outage. Smaller outages also occurred in Richmond, New Westminster, and the east coast of Vancouver. BC Hydro reported that power was restored to most customers by Wednesday evening.
Williams Lake Outage
BC Hydro also reported a separate outage affecting 3373 customers east of Williams Lake. This outage began at approximately 8:20 AM and remained unresolved as of Thursday morning.
Richmond Outage
On Wednesday evening, a power outage affected over 5700 BC Hydro customers in Richmond. BC Hydro dispatched a crew to the area, and power was restored to most customers by Thursday morning.
Planned 4-Day Outage
BC Hydro has issued an electronic mail notice informing customers of a planned 4-day outage in the Williams Lake area. The outage is scheduled to begin on May 16, 2024.
Power Restored
As of Thursday morning, May 16, 2024, power has been restored to almost 3000 BC Hydro customers who had been without power since Wednesday.
